Music speaks to our hearts in different ways. When we are happy, when we are sad, when we are expressing love, among others. Some have forgotten that Music was created by God for the purposes of worshipping him. Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created . . ., he is the creator of everything.
Today I shared with our Youth an excerpt from Pastor Gary Olivers' book From Performance to Praise, that states "There is no way to refute that God Himself has fashioned and created the essence of every aspect of life as we know it. Everything we see today has been formed or developed from what God has given us. The same is true of music. To look at music in its purest form, we see the beauty and power of a tool. Yes, a tool. It was a tool given not initially to man, but to an angel to glorify God in heaven. Music was and is the component that created and maintained an atmosphere of worship in heaven. Music is still going on in heaven today."
Today's music has definitely taken us in different directions and the lyrics are a far cry from worshipping our Lord and Savior. Although we may have our favorite genres of music (Rock, Alternative, Country, Pop, Rap, etc), there is a Christian version of all these forms and more!
Where does a youth start when wanting more encouraging music? My suggestion K-Love radio! Each year K-Love challenges people to listen to nothing but their radio station for 30 days and see their lives transformed. I offer up this same challenge to each of the youth. Rather you be in the car, on your phone, or streaming at home, you can find ways to incorporate Christian music into your daily lives.
I look forward to hearing about some of your favorite artists that you have come to know as well as your favorite songs.
